These earrings were inspired by early examples celestial visions richly displayed in medieval manuscripts. The Seraphim (Seraph "to burn') are angelic beings that are the closest to God in the angelic hierarchy. They are responsible for transmitting light and illumination to the lower orders of Angels and throughout the Cosmos.  

The prophet Isaiah has a vision that portrays the Seraphim as celestial beings surrounding God on an exalted throne (Merkaba), praising and devoting the Lord. The Seraphim are also mentioned in Enoch's vision, where the Seraphim appear as the heavenly creatures standing nearest to the throne of God. It is also mentioned in the prophet Ezekiel's vision where he sees a chariot made of heavenly beings.
